Short answer
There are 1,258 metres of vertical between the summit and the base at Erciyes, so the weather is never the same at both ends of the mountain. This page updates temperature, wind and model-estimated snow depth for each point every half hour. Only the official source can tell you whether the pistes are open.

Why the summit and the base are measured separately
The skiable area at Erciyes starts at 2,088 m and reaches 3,346 m at the top station of the Ottoman line. That 1,258 m gap typically means a 7-8 degree temperature difference on a dry day. It can be raining at the base gate while it snows at the summit — a common situation on this mountain.
Publishing a single "Erciyes temperature" would therefore be misleading. The panel above shows two points separately: the base elevation on the Hacılar side and the highest point of the ski area. When you decide which elevation to ski, the number that matters is the one for the elevation you are heading to.
Snow depth: model estimate versus measurement
The snow depth on this page is the output of a numerical weather model. The model estimates a cover depth by computing snowfall, temperature and melt at that coordinate. It is not a reading taken with a stake on the piste.
The difference matters. Resorts groom the runs, move snow around and make snow artificially, and those operations can separate the real depth on the piste noticeably from the model's estimate. The model describes the mountain's general state and its trend well — it answers "did it snow this week, is the cover building or shrinking". For the exact depth on the piste you need the official source.
We state this distinction everywhere on the site. Presenting a number as more certain than it is does more harm than not showing it at all.
Watch what actually changes during the day
Temperature is not the only variable that decides a day at Erciyes. Wind, especially at the upper elevations, affects both comfort and whether the lifts run. Next to the current wind, the value shown as gusts is what usually stops chairlifts — not the average speed.
The second decider is visibility. On an overcast, foggy day the snow can be excellent and still leave you unable to read the terrain up high; on days like that the runs below the treeline are more useful. The weather description in the panel is there to make that call easier.

Four gates, four different mountains
Which gate you enter Erciyes by decides how your day will go.
Hacılar Gate
- Number of pistes
- 11
- Number of lifts
- 3
- Base elevation
- 2,088 m
Hacılar starts from the lowest point of the ski area, 2,088 m, and hosts the base station of the Lifos gondola. It is one of the two gondola lines that foot passengers — visitors who are not skiing — can use to reach the mountain.
Tekir Gate
- Number of pistes
- 4
- Number of lifts
- 2
- Base elevation
- 2,209 m
Tekir is the classic entrance to Erciyes and the departure point of the resort's second gondola. The Tekir gondola runs from 2,209 m to 2,466 m and is the other line open to foot passengers.
Hisarcık Gate
- Number of pistes
- 15
- Number of lifts
- 6
- Base elevation
- 2,266 m
With fifteen pistes, Hisarcık is the busiest gate on the mountain and six separate lift lines run from it. Ottoman, the highest installation at Erciyes, belongs to this gate: it climbs from 2,922 m to 3,346 m and defines the upper limit of the ski area.
Develi Gate
- Number of pistes
- 11
- Number of lifts
- 3
- Base elevation
- 2,222 m
Develi sits on the southern flank and carries eleven pistes. It runs on the Kaniş, Kartın and Kültepe lines; at 2,173 m Kültepe is the longest of the three and reaches 2,637 m.
Frequently asked questions
Is there snow at Erciyes right now?
The panel at the top of this page shows an estimated snow depth for the summit and the base separately, refreshed every half hour. That figure comes from a weather model and is not a measurement taken on the piste. Whether the runs are open is announced by the official source.
Can I watch the Erciyes webcam here?
No. The camera feeds run on the resort's own infrastructure and are not embedded elsewhere without permission. Our webcam page explains where the official feeds are and what to look for in the image, then sends you to the official source.
How large is the temperature difference between summit and base?
The ski area has 1,258 m of vertical. In dry air you expect roughly 0.6-1 degree of cooling per 100 m, which typically means a 7-12 degree difference. Once wind chill is included, the perceived gap is larger still.
Is this the official website of Erciyes Ski Resort?
No. We are an independent guide and do not operate the resort. We take both the resort figures and the live slope and lift status from the official publication of Kayseri Erciyes A.Ş. and show them with their source and timestamp. The official page is always what is binding.
